Very frustrating! I don’t have time to figure out how to break through this stupid block from swisscom-eurospot that blocks me from sending emails from my normal mail program!

This is why I like Gmail - you just route around it. Even though it is Web-based, the user interface is excellent. If you need an invite, let me know

If I understand your problem correctly, you’re trying to send mail through an ISP’s network to another mail server (your own?)?
The solution to that is to use an MSA (Mail Submission Agent). Sendmail is easily configured to do this. It listens for mail on port 587, which is not usually blocked by ISPs. Look at sendmail.org for more info.
I personally think it’s a good idea for an ISP to block any outbound port 25 traffic from within their network (not their own outbound mail servers, of course). Massive amounts of spam is sent from trojaned machines, sending mail out to open relays, etc. That has to be stopped.
It makes life a little more complicated for those of us who want to do something slightly out of the ordinary, but on balance, it’s a good thing.

Use webmail interface to your mail account, instead. That’s what I do.

Sounds good. Also, I discovered that .mac mail and gmail each use a different SSL port for smtp that is usually not blocked. :)

Went with AuthSMTP.com as well - super service and well work a couple of bucks a month. Thanks for the tip will save me a lot of hassle in the future.

Got one, thanks ;-) Also, I now have a server at home with SSH (not SSL) on port 443 so I can build tunnels to any (smtp) server I want. SSH Listening on port 443 so I can even go through web proxies if necessary.

hey dudeI feel your pain. If you use a VPN service (i use HotspotVPN.com) you can get about the port 25 blocked problem. Also i also use a service from AUTHsmtp.com. for like 25$ USD a year you can use their service to bypass the port 25 problem as well.

I went with authsmtp.com as VPN’s, SSH etc. are fairly complex to setup. They offered loads of features and works out at around $2 per month and took less than 5 minutes start-to-finish.

You can also try sending on port 26 as most(?) providers listen on this due to ISP blocking.
