Last year it was ‘Blog’.
As I predicted, this year it’s ‘Podcast’.

Good call. There are wheels within wheels here. Your prediction was based on the 2004 word of the year from Merriam-Webster. The podcast as word-of-the-year was declaired by The New American Oxford Dictionary (and picked up also by The Canadian Oxford Dictionary & maybe others too). The earlier reports that “podcast” had been added to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED)were not quite correct. It was the Oxford Dictionary of English (2nd Edition Revised), which is in fact a different dictionary from the OED. The OED is the godhead that rigourously tracks down first citatations and etymologies and so each entry takes longer to get into the OED than podcasting has yet been around .A good resource is www.wordspy.com/words/podcasting.asp (I point here to the “podcast” entry).Turning it on its head, my podcast www.podictionary.com is not the word about podcasting, but the podcast about words.
